The word ‘Nabhaasa’ (pronounced nah-pa-sah) refers to the first rain of the season and the feeling of joy experienced. We believe this feeling is similar to the joy of a newborn baby in your life, the way your heart overflows with emotions not experienced before.

Baby Receiving Blankets - Baby Elephants Dohar

In India, all babies are swaddled in square cloths made from pure cotton called ‘dohars’. These are comprised of three sheets of mulmul, an airy ultra-breathable 100% cotton muslin once exclusive to royalty. Dohars are also known as baby receiving blankets, they are lightweight and can be easily packed into a bag.

Swaddling is the art of snuggly wrapping a baby in a blanket for warmth, comfort and security. It can keep your baby from being disturbed by their own startle reflex, and it can help the baby stay warm and toasty for the first few days of life until the baby’s internal thermostat kicks in. It may even help to calm your baby.

As mothers ourselves, we wanted to share our passion for the love of our children and the planet. With the hand printing on the middle layer, your baby will only have the softest of fabrics against their delicate skin.

Our gorgeous muslin dohars are produced in Jaipur, India. The business is run by a woman and employs women to create these handmade dohars, which are sustainably sourced and carefully checked to ensure that they are soft and delicate on the skin of your little one.

There are many positive attributes to swaddling and the NCT has a useful  guide.  Another popular site, What to Expect, has guidelines on how to swaddle babies.
